What are File Lookups?

File Lookups are small spreadsheets which you can upload and store within SchemeServe in order to use them to enrich your quotation process. For instance, you may have a list of postcode crime areas which you would like to use to trigger referrals, or to drive increased rates, or perhaps a list of trade professions which will be used to populate a drop-down box during your Get Quote process.

Uploading new File Lookups

You can create new lookup files by visiting Admin > File Lookups.

What to do if the first row of your lookup appears to be missing

If this happens you've probably uploaded a file with no header row. Unfortunately SchemeServe has no way of knowing whether you have used the first row as a header or not. To fix this, just add a header row, something like: LookupKey,Column1,Column2,Column3 etc. for as many columns as you have in the file.

  • Note: If the file you supplied does not import correctly it may be an invalid CSV file. Check carefully before uploading again.
  • Hint: you can also compress your CSV files in ZIP format and upload them directly, making upload times much faster for large files.

Editing existing File Lookups

You can edit existing File Lookups in Admin > File Lookups.

Populating a dropdown box with File Lookup values

Using a file lookup with a dropdown
  • Go to Admin > Questions.
  • When creating a new question or editing an existing one, choose an Answer Type of "Dropdown Box (from File Lookup)".
  • Finally, at the bottom of the question editing window, choose the name of the lookup file you would like to use.
  • Important: only the first column from your File Lookup will be used to populate your dropdown box.
